November 2018: Gidget Girls

Delicious, colourful, sweet treats filling your plate.

A stunning Sydney rooftop courtyard.

Bubbles in your champagne glass.

Oh…. and did we mention diamonds?!?!

Yep you read that correctly. DIAMONDS!

Every year, we make it our mission to raise money and awareness around maternal health and emotional wellbeing and this year you’re invited to join us for an afternoon of champagne, macaroons, mums and diamonds in one of Sydney’s most iconic venues.

There’s no better way to spend a day than with your mum friends and family all while raising money and awareness for a good cause.

With our event taking place during Perinatal Depression & Anxiety Awareness (PNDA) Week, all profits will be donated to Gidget Foundation Australia, who support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents.

The Cause

The best part of buying a ticket is that all profits go back to supporting the Gidget Foundation, via their Bun in the Oven campaign which is held in November each year to mark PNDA Week.

Each year in Australia, 1 in 5 new mothers and 1 in 10 fathers experience perinatal depression and anxiety.

Pregnancy and the first year of parenthood (the perinatal period) can be a uniquely special time. It’s also a time of a great adjustment and the impact is often underestimated in our society.  All expectant and new parents will have their good days and bad days, their ups and downs. But when bad days start to seriously outnumber the good they may be at risk of perinatal depression and anxiety.

Everyday, all around the world, there are parents who are struggling with their emotional health. Pregnancy and parenthood is a period of great change and it’s common to experience a range of emotions, both positive and negative in response to these changes.

It’s really difficult to learn how to be a parent, and extremely difficult adjusting to the needs and behaviours of a new baby. Especially when you’re feeling sore, exhausted and perhaps even distressed by your birth experience.

If you are struggling to understand your thoughts or feelings and it’s affecting your day-to-day activities, it’s important to seek support and understand why it is that you feel this way.

The Dress Code

A mum life wardrobe normally means picking up whatever is on the floor and hoping that there isn’t food or vomit stains. But the nature of an afternoon on munching on a delicious High Tea at the Sofitel means a sartorial free-for-all, and the perfect excuse to get dressed in some nice clothes again.

The one thing that’s non-negotiable? Keep it comfortable. Because what modern mum has the time to worry about aching blisters and jackets that don’t let you pick up a child?

Take inspiration from stylists Dan and Dani at Designer Style List who have exclusively selected a few key Out & About Baby approved outfits for some extra inspiration. It’s all about the blazer that makes everything in your wardrobe look more polished and a comfy and colourful dress.

The Hosts: Claire Aristides and Laura Ruston

About Claire

Owner and director of Aristides Fine Jewels and Bambino Diamonds, Claire Aristides is one stylish mama. Always immaculately presented with the best jewels (of course), Claire has recently given birth to her second baby, Cleo. Joining her gorgeous brother Enzo, already the most dapper young man, Claire’s a mum on the go who likes to keep busy but knows her limits and what’s most important – her family and diamonds – both are forever.

About Laura

Out & About Baby began with Laura’s search for clean baby change rooms in locations that served really good coffee and avo toast.  For the answer, she travelled far and wide, drank a lot of coffee, changed a lot of nappies, breastfed in lots of strange places and talked endlessly to her mothers’ group.  On any given day, she is discovering, reviewing and approving the best of the best with her son Harvey to make it easier for you to get out and about.

Throughout her pregnancy and motherhood journey, model and author Chrissy Teigen has been refreshingly honest about her experiences. From getting real about the difficulties of IVF to capturing the humour in stretch marks and leaking boobs, Chrissy is known to be a “chronic over-sharer” in the best — and most hilarious — ways possible.

However, there’s one relatable difficulty that Chrissy hasn’t made a joke about: her struggle with postnatal depression and anxiety.  And she’s not the only one. It’s incredibly common and has become the rule rather than the exception. Read more about her journey here.

It all starts with you.

Each and every one of us can make a difference to a mum who is struggling with parenthood. Because with every ticket you purchase, you support a parent in need of help.
