Last weekend, The Out & About Baby Family celebrated our 1st Birthday.
Launching the website was a long time coming… I originally thought of the idea when my sone was just 6 weeks old. And since then it has been a rollercoaster of tears, laughs, hustle and fun.
And not so coincidentally, it coincides with Mother’s Day.
Now, almost 12 months later, we gathered the team and all the families to celebrate it the best way we knew how: with a rosé-and-naan bread fuelled lunch at the seriously delicious Manjit’s on King Street Wharf.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
As editors for Out & About Baby, we get out & about A LOT. It’s pretty much the whole job description.
Hey, someone’s gotta do it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
And to be completely honest, a lot of places we go pass as mediocre. The hospitality market is a competitive – and fickle – space so it takes something remarkable to stand out in they eyes of these parents and their fussy kids. And when we do find something that impresses us, it’s worth sharing.
Service goes a big way to making a lasting impression and that’s one thing that Manjit’s does really well. Yes, the food is awesome (the butter chicken is next level delish and the cheesy naan bread will keep your kids quiet and happy for ages) but the staff really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, even if you have a ratty toddler attached to your hip.
The setting at Manjit’s on the Wharf is light, bright, airy and relaxed. The views out over Darling Harbour really sparkle on a Sunday afternoon in the sunshine and you know the food is going to be delicious when there are loads of Indian families sitting around their own lazy Sunday family lunches. It really is the best family friendly Indian restaurant that Sydney has to offer.
The Out & About Baby Family
The biggest and best part of the last 12 months has without a doubt been the friendships and relationships that have come from it.
To start with – the Out & About Baby team is the best I could have ever imagined. Dave, Krystyna, Kate and Alarna have been there in the ups and downs and I feel truely privileged to have them as both friends and colleagues. And I feel doubly lucky that all our kids will grow up knowing each other and can be part of the Out & About Baby family as well.
The Manjit’s team is also part of my extended family in a way. The beautiful Natasha (the daughter-in-law of the original Manjit restaurateur) was one of my original Mother’s Group friends and, along with another gorgeous mumma, Danielle, the 3 of us have become somewhat inseparable. As have our babies.
Special thanks go to:
Deep and Natasha and the whole team at Manjit’s on the Wharf for hosting the Out & About Baby Birthday Lunch.
Dan and Dani from Designer Style List who made sure I was looked my super sparkly best.
Jacqui Manning for the divine photos.
Harvey, Nishka, Zaro, James and Olenka for not throwing too much food on the floor and being relatively well behaved.
To the extended Out & About Baby family – Ally, Niki, Terry, Tim, Chris, Jen, Pietu, Caity, Danielle and Sarah. Thank you for your support, ideas, work and love. You guys are the best sounding boards and biz wizzes I could have asked for.
And last but not least, thank you to all the gorgeous Mums that I have met with, talked to and who has used the site over the last 12 months. Our business is only as strong as the community that contributes – and right now, well I’m pretty much feeling like Wonder Woman.
Knee High Superhero Boots and all.
I hope we can continue to develop and deliver the most kick ass parenting website in the world that can truely help mums and dads get out & about.
